Progress Report: July 19th

 A lot of projects accomplished this week. These are the two cabinet doors from the stairwell.This is how blackened everything was from the stairwell on forward when we first started working on the boat back in the end of February. 

 They cleaned up beautifully! 

I used full strength Pine Sol, Scotch Bright pads and Magic Eraser. 
Eric will varnish them this week.

Here is the stairwell before prepping. The lower area is covered in wall paper glue residue. It is being removed by brushing on full strength GOJO (orange pumice hand cleaner) and then scraped off with a small cabinet scraper. The upper areas will be scraped and then sanded.

The whiter area shows the effectiveness of the GOJO cleaner and scraper. 

These a/c vents were over the microwave in the galley and one of the larger side cabinets across from the fridge. The insides were a bit blackened but they cleaned up well. 

We removed the microwave. It was the only appliance that couldn't be salvaged. This area has been prepped for paint.

On the opposite side of the wall, to the right of the microwave and stove, this locker held a very large a/c unit. The unit has been removed and a smaller one will be installed on the bottom that will cool the galley and part of the main salon. The top will become storage space. Most of the wiring, plumbing and various electrical boxes will be removed. 

This small fan will take the place of the damaged galley fan. The galley gets very hot and this is really helping to vent the air through ducting in the overhead to the outside. Temporary but works great!

The three large cabinets are finished with varnished doors completed on two of them. All the shelves are in and smoke smell is completely gone from these areas.

The smoke smell in this second set of galley cupboards was so strong it was nauseating. 

 Painting is completed and smoke smell is gone! Eric is finishing up the inner shelves and outer varnishing of the doors and frame.

This closet in the laundry room was as black as the small doors in the first photo. Here it has been cleaned and prepped for Kilz primer.

The entire room is now painted with Kilz primer as well as the section of wood flooring where the washer and dryer will sit. We will be moving on to other projects right now. We need to use the remaining 9-10 days of our work trip to prep for the kilz primer and get as much of the smoke smell eliminated as we can. Painting will come at a later date.

 Demolition continues in the captains' quarters.

During the fire, several windows were broken out by the fire department. Plastic sheets were taped over the window frames for quite awhile before the windows were replaced. There was a residue left that came off easily using Magic Eraser and diluted dish soap.

 Mary has been cleaning sections of the outside of the boat for a couple hours each morning.

Progress Report: July 12th

DJ and Mary finishing pressure washing the last of the smoke damaged items from the lower cabins and a door from the captains quarters. The metal round and rectangular plates are some of the storm shutters for the ports. 

The two a/c units that were under the bunk in the captains quarters. After cleaning, the smaller one will be reinstalled back under the bunk and the larger one will go into the forward lower cabins.

 Shelves for the dry storage (pantry) cabinets. Two of the small refrigerators and the wine cooler are under the drop cloths. We sold the refrigerators over the weekend and have one more to clean and list next Thursday.

We removed the flooring in the helm area and captains quarters. We will be cutting hatches and making lockers due to a large amount of open space underneath. Sanding paint and non-slip rugs will probably be all we need here when we are finished.

The drawers were pretty sooted but cleaned up fairly well.

The completed bench pieces are finished and will be stored in the main salon along the wall by the table for now.

This whole upper section of the captains quarters will be torn out. The mirror will be removed as well. On the right hand side we will build some open lockers and clean and paint underneath the bunk with kilz primer.

The heavy soot cleaning of the vinyl walls in the helm area is almost completed. Magic eraser and vinegar is doing a great job. We will eventually remove these panels but for now they will do.

 What a difference! 

They are still slightly stained at the top but still look great.

Progress Report: July 6th

Preparing to load a 300 lb tool chest on-board. This will be stored in the main salon for the time being. 

Starting to refinish the cabinets. A three step process to kill the smoke smell. Stix Primer, Kilz and Acrylic paint.

Extra refrigerators we are cleaning and removing from the vessel. We will sell these and use the funds for supplies.

This space held a drawer fridge and wine cooler. We moved this refrigerator to the main salon and will sell the wine cooler. Another refrigerator from the upper deck will be placed here and used mainly for medicines when medical teams and shot clinics are on-board.

One of two ice makers we are trying to salvage. The smoke damage is heavy but we will do our best to clean them. The other unit is the wine cooler.

The shower cleaned up pretty well and it has good water pressure. The walls are a bit stained from the smoke damage and we may paint some time in the future. 

 What a difference in these walls! After trying various cleaners and techniques, we discovered a product called 'The Works' and applied it with a 'Mr. Clean Magic Eraser'.

 Two a/c units that were under the bunk in the captains quarters. They will be cleaned and then DJ will install the smaller back under the bunk. It will provide a/c for the cabin and adjacent helm area.

A lot of space under the bunk now that the a/c units and ducting have been removed. There is a lot of  dead space behind the bulkhead to the right. Eric will make lockers in this area.
